It was never my intention to do a lot of reviews here, but I had the opportunity to try out a really cool and unique carrier. Thanks to Karla @ The Babywearing Club!
The Babuebaby, despite the name, is actually a toddler-through-big-kid sized carrier. It’s designed by an occupational therapist to be extremely supportive for both the wearer and the child. It’s inclusive for kids who may not have the core stability to go up on the back in most buckle carriers.
It has a wide and supportive buckle waist-belt, an additional buckle for around the torso, and long (very long!) meh dai style shoulder straps.
It took me a couple tries to find a sweet spot with it. I have a nosey boy and a bladder prolapse so my inclination is to put him up high on my back. I ended up with a carry that didn’t feel bad, but didn’t feel much different from a carrier with less going on either. To get the most out of this carrier you need to seat it low and let the waistband distribute the weight on your hip joint. This didn’t end up bothering either my boy or my pelvic floor as I’d expected.
I initially tied the straps Tibetan by default and this is still my favourite configuration after some playing around with it. The weight distribution works for me and it eats up the tail length.
Gabriel really liked going up in this one and once I got the fit down I felt like I could have carried him all day. He’s only about 25 lbs right now but this carrier can comfortably accommodate a seriously big kid! Gabriel loves to walk and be independent (and run away!), but I still carry him often.
I’m planning to add one to my library. What do you think? Would you try it out?
